The grand opening of the newest flagship 5.11 store in Las Vegas was one part show of appreciation for the local law enforcement community, one part celebration of the 5.11 Tactical brand, and one part community get-together. 5.11 Tactical is honored to serve public safety professionals and equip tactical professionals and enthusiasts. Opening a retail location provides the best opportunity for us to meet and hear product feedback first-hand from our customers. And a location in Las Vegas just off the strip provides the unique opportunity for us to interact with locals as well as the city’s more than 42 million domestic and international visitors each year.
Tom Davin, CEO of 5.11 Tactical, kicked things off by welcoming guests, brand fans, and local dignitaries to the new Las Vegas store at 4305 Dean Martin Drive in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Honor Guard presented the colors and everyone recited the pledge of allegiance.
Next, Tom led a ceremony to honor local law enforcement officers who have gone above and beyond in performing their duties. Each officer was presented a 5.11 Tactical backpack customized with his or her name.
LT Sasha Larkin leads the Gang Unit at Las Vegas Metro Police Department. She was the shift Lieutenant on duty the day of the shooting murders of two LVMPD officers, Beck and Soldo. Larkin and other LVMPD officers recall the events of the ambush in this video.
Resident Officer Nathan Bradford received a lifesaving award for helping to rescue an elderly citizen pinned in her car after it was washed into the Muddy River. The car was sinking, so Bradford removed his gear and went into the chest-deep water to free the citizen. He then went back in the water to rescue her dog and recover her purse, and still went back a third time to confirm no one else remained inside the vehicle.
Sgt Frank Fama received a meritorious award for helping to stop a vicious dog attack. The dog had attacked three separate victims.
CO Denton Bunch found high-profile inmate Jon Koppenhaver attempting to commit suicide and immediately cut him down, saving him. He received the lifesaving award for his actions that day.
CO Sgt Michael Lusch performed CPR on an inmate who was attempting to commit suicide and helped resuscitate him. Lusch received a lifesaving award for his actions.
Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak took the mic next and proclaimed August 7 “5.11 Day” in Clark County.
5.11 Ambassador and top 3-gun shooter Kalani Laker was also on hand to celebrate the grand opening and to do a demonstration inside the store.
Some stores have ribbon cutting ceremonies, but that didn’t seem quite right for a 5.11 Tactical grand opening. “Tactical” isn’t just in our name, it’s in our DNA. So we busted out the Training Door and the Mini Ram, and Officer Bradford breached open the new flagship store.
With the store officially open, everyone went inside to check out the latest tactical apparel, gear, and accessories. We’re pretty sure a lot of people also wanted to cool off for a bit after standing outside in the heat before going back out to grab a bite to eat from the food tent. Our new neighbors from Poppa Naps BBQ. Poppa Naps offered a “Usual Suspects” menu with burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chips, and iced tea and lemonade to drink. Our friends at UFC Gym Blue Diamond also joined in the festivities and welcomed us to the neighborhood. Inside the store, Kalani Laker demonstrated some of his favorite techniques for shooting, reloading, and being lightning fast.
You can’t miss the store – it’s close to the strip and just off Interstate 15. A huge billboard stands next to the building. Exit Tropicana and head North on Dean Martin Drive.
The store is located at 4305 Dean Martin Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89103.
Our billboard and tents caught the attention of a few adventure-bound travelers who had to stop by and check out the new store.
Once inside, you’ll feel like a kid in a candy store. Create a loadout from our full lineup of packs, bags, and pouches. See the complete collection of RECON fitness apparel. Try the latest and greatest pants on for size, and pick out a morale patch. Lights, knives, pens, tools, boots, socks… it’s like walking through the 5.11 catalog. We hope to see you next time you’re in Vegas!
