SHOT Show 2016: at Media Day and in the 5.11 Booth

The 5.11 Team was out of the social media bunker and on the ground in Las Vegas at SHOT Show 2016 all week January 18 – 22, 2016.

Media Day at the Range
We spent our first day at the Boulder Rifle and Pistol Club for Media Day. It was our chance to get hands-on experience with the latest advances in technology and to test our skills with the full range of firearms there — from micro concealed carry pistols to sniper rifles.

As we worked our way through the range, we found a few items that became clear favorites.

The SilencerCo Maxim 9 is the world’s first integrally suppressed 9mm pistol. There have been others that used .32-caliber, but this is the first 9mm. It’s hearing-safe with any factory ammunition.

Kimber K6s Revolver is a small .357 that is an excellent concealed carry option.

The Kel-Tec Sub2000 Gen2 was one of our favorite guns on the range.

When we stopped by the Devil Dog Arms booth at the range, we had the opportunity to check out their new .510 Beck. Beck Ammunition created a new size: the .510. It fires from the .308 platform with a different barrel, bolt and magazine. The weights are 750grain subsonic expanding to 680grain monolithic to a 327grain that travels 2,750 feet/second.

SHOT Show Highlights
The first day of SHOT Show 2016 was a busy day in the 5.11 Tactical booth. Fans and friends of Kyle Lamb lined up shortly after the show opened for their opportunity to shake hands with the man and get an autographed VTAC / 5.11 t-shirt. Kyle helped us shoot a couple new videos in the booth too.

Magnus Samuelsson was up next and brought in a large crowd as well. Samuelsson showed off his Strongman skills by lifting a stack of 45-pound plates with one hand, no sweat. He is a strongman — no other way to say it.

Tony Schumacher, NHRA Top Fuel champion driver of The Sarge, was also in the booth for a meet & greet and autographs. He was doing what most of the rest of those visiting the booth were doing — talking about their preferred 5.11 gear and swapping morale patches and swag.

On Wednesday, the special guests continued to create buzz around the 5.11 booth. 5.11 Ambassador and creator of TacFit Scott Sonnon came by to talk shop about tactical fitness. Lee Child signed copies of the latest Jack Reacher book, Make Me. For you action flick fans, there’s a new Jack Reacher movie coming out later this year – “Never Go Back.”

The 5.11 Ambassador competitive shooters were a strong presence on Thursday, with appearances by Janna Reeves, Dianna Muller and Team Benelli, Sydney Rockwell and more. Steve Tarani stopped by for a meet and greet. (We’ll have more soon on Steve’s upcoming training event with Rob Leatham and Chris White. Stay tuned!)
